A Nature-Based Introduction to Seminary of the Wild

wILD ChRIST, wILD eaRth, wILD SeLF

     This introduction to Seminary of the Wild offers an experiential, nature-based, journey of apprenticeship into the wild mysteries of the kingdom of God.

     It's an invitation into your own deeper participation in the restoration of the world, at a time when the old ways don't resonate anymore. Created for those who long for a more soul-infused life and yearn to find ways to re-connect to to the natural world as a person of faith during a time of deep cultural unraveling.

     Finding a way forward for the Pilgrim, the Church, and the Culture will require that we live in alignment with the life-enhancing wisdom of Creation -- the revelatory Book of Nature.

    Seminary of the Wild supports that journey.  You will experience:

A re-enchantment of the natural world and a re-visioning of your deep belonging to this world by reconnecting with your senses, body, emotions, imagination directly with the land and creatures.

A re-wilding of the Christian story that begins with deconstructing processes of domestication, and distortions that have tamed and suppressed the earth-based vision of the Christ.

A re-claiming of your own wild, prophetic voice as a leader engaged in transforming culture during this age of ecological destruction and calling for reformation.

A re-membering yourself into a much larger Whole in a journey of wild discipleship, expanding your capacity to connect directly with the Holy and follow your unique calling as participant in a wild and beautiful story of inter-connection.

Re-membeR The ConversatIoN...

Reconnection as spiritual reality and practice with the natural world is necessary not only for ecological and cultural restoration, but also for a deeper, more authentic, and intimate connection with God, ourselves, and all of the others. Recent scientific and psychological research as well as ancient spiritual traditions affirm that a sacred and reciprocal relationship with the natural world is essential for human spiritual, psychological, and physical health and meaning.

In pivotal times in Biblical history, nearly every leader was called into an intimate encounter with wilderness. We are in one of those crucial times, not just as individuals, not just as a people, but as a species. We need the revelation of the wilderness.

Following an arc of the wilderness wanderings of Judeo-Christian spiritual leaders, particularly Moses and Jesus, the week will integrate biblical narratives, eco-theology (through dynamic engagement with the works of theologians such as Thomas Berry, Matthew Fox, Richard Rohr, Michael Dowd, Teilhard de Chardin, Hildegard of Bingen, and Sallie McFague), and nature-based soul work developed by developmental psychologist and wilderness guide Bill Plotkin.

The seminary "pedagogy of the wild" is primarily experiential and conducted in direct relationship with the ancient rocks, shimmering rivers, and wild creatures of the Rio Chama watershed of Ghost Ranch.

SemINARy  of The WIld

Seminary of the Wild exists to equip leaders in the Christ Tradition through nature-based experiences and supportive community to:

Reclaim the wild roots of the Christian story;

Cultivate a sacred relationship with Earth;

Clarify a sense of deep purpose; and

Embody an authentic identity as a unique gift to the world.

The yearlong Eco-Ministry Certificate begins April 2020.  Cohorts , online support and discussion, on-land intensives, and integrated curriculum will support eco-seminarians as they prepare to bring their own unique forms of transformative work into deeper service to the world.

To be human is to become visible

while carrying what is hidden as a gift to others.

To remember the other world in this world

is to live in your true inheritance...

...Now, looking through the slanting light of the morning window

toward the mountain presence of everything that can be

what urgency calls you to your one love?

What shape waits in the seed of you

to grow and spread its branches

against a future sky?
